Below is a write up of the day in which Preston Impact Groups travelled down to Frodsham to partake in mass and recieve the groups award to help fund the activities that the groups put on.
On Sunday 25th November 2018, members of both the IMPACT Youth Group from Preston and the Action Groups from Lytham spent the day together. We started off the day on the minibus and then we had time to socialise over lunch at the service station. We then arrived in Frodsham at St Luke’s Church around 2pm and so we waited for the mass to begin for around 50 minutes. The staff at St Luke’s were very welcoming and they provided us all with drinks and somewhere to sit whilst they finished getting organised.
We then headed upstairs into the Church and we sat through the mass and listened to the readings of that weeks Sunday Gospel, Christ the King. The mass was filled with prayer and song as we were all joined together in the presence of God. This was an opportunity for us to thank God for all he has given us and for providing us with the chance to have our voices heard, help young people from various different backgrounds and have an impact. During the mass we heard John’s Gospel about the confrontation that Jesus had with Pontius Pilate. This taught us that we can be heard if we stand for what we believe and if we tell the truth, like Jesus told Pilate the truth about he was the Son of God.
After mass, we headed downstairs and four different awards were given out to different people for their work as individuals, groups or because they were in need of some support. We heard some amazing stories of how the Broughton Catholic Charitable Society has and continues to help families who are struggling and to help fund some excellent events and activities. After hearing four speeches from the people/representatives of the people who had received awards, we were called up to get our award of £3,000 to go towards all the work we do and to help pay for things that we participate in. As we went up, I was presented the cheque by the President of the Broughton Catholic Charitable Society, Dr J.E.Leneghan. Terry then gave a short speech on how the money will help us develop our groups, pay for opportunities that some young people can’t pay the full amount for themselves and help the groups to do activities that we don’t usually do. Ella from St Bede’s Catholic High School in Lytham then told everyone about how she was awarded the Pax Christi award in 2017 and that was thanks to Terry and the group.
After that, we were congratulated by many people who were very interested in the work we do inside and outside of school. They asked many questions and then wished us all the best before we left after tearing Terry away from all the people he was having a very long catch-up with!! We then headed home after a very lovely day in Frodsham.
